The first qualification you require for any discipline is the ASA/UKCC Level 1 Award, which focuses on “how to teach/coach” and “what to teach/coach”.
An ASA/UKCC Level 1 Award qualifies you to teach/coach in a support role. You will be able to actively support a more senior qualified or licensed Teacher/Coach to deliver a pre-prepared session. You will be eligible for a number of Continued Professional Development (CPD) seminars and, when ready, to progress to Level 2 or take on a new discipline.
Level 1 courses typically take 5 days, either consecutively or spread over weekends or a number of weeks and cost £415.
Coaching qualifications are available in the following disciplines; Swimming, Water Polo, Diving and Synchronised Swimming. If you already hold an ASA Level 1 or 2 Teaching qualification, you may not need to attend the full course.
Teaching/Coaching Qualification Next Steps
Progressing to Level 2 – To work on your own without supervision (other than lifeguard cover) you are required to hold the ASA/UKCC Level 2 Certificate, which also focuses on “how to teach/coach” and “what to teach/coach”.
An ASA/UKCC Level 2 Certificate qualifies you to plan, deliver and evaluate a series of consecutive sessions within the context of a self-prepared scheme of work. You will be eligible for more Continued Professional Development (CPD) Seminars and may be able to train to take on new disciplines or progress to Level 3.
Level 2 courses typically take 10 days , either consecutively or spread over weekends or a number of weeks and cost £700.
Full details of the available qualifications can be viewed on the ASA Awarding Body Website.
