Diving in London

Diving is one of the five aquatic disciplines governed by the ASA and is as exhilarating to spectate as it is to take part in.  From watching performance athletes winning medals at the Olympics and World Championships to seeing children in action at your local diving pool - diving captivates audiences of all ages.  Whether there are aspirations to be a champion or just to have fun, diving is a safe, healthy and exciting activity.

Diving offers a touch of variety to the usual sports taught in schools and can improve discipline, co-ordination, agility and confidence.  As long as the participant is water confident and above the age of 5 there are opportunities to have a go at Diving starting from basic beginner lessons right through to competitive levels.  Being part of a lesson or club encourages social interaction, developing new skills together and sharing common experiences.

Gymnastics and Trampolining are very similar sports to diving and teachers can transfer many of the skills learnt in those sports into the pool.

London has a strong tradition of producing divers who have progressed all the way to the Olympic podium. To start Diving then enrol on a learn to dive programme at one of the London's seven dive centres or if you are also learning to swim you should be given the option to learn to dive as part of stages 8-9-10 of the National Plan for Teaching Swimming.

Learning the 'FUNdamentals' of Diving is called 'Flip 'n' Fun' and was launched in London in July 2007.

London has a Diving Manager in Stacia Szezerbiuk and a committee that meets regularly.

London also has a dedicated Diving Officer in Jo Calvino.
