Best wishes - All the team at London Swimming would like to say it has been a pleasure working with Ben Campion, and we wish him all the best for the future in his new job.
This week Colin Brown (RD) has had meetings with the London Development Agency, Newham and Tower Hamlet Councils. Colin also facilitated a very productive Aquatic Strategy meeting with Barking & Dagenham Clubs and the local Council. Colin did his 'Alan Sugar bit' by attempting to “hire” ‘apprenctice style’ from 32 MSc students interested in doing a placement with London Swimming over the summer. We are down to the final three candidates and hoping to make a decision next week. Colin also welcomed Alex Davis on board as the new Swimming co-ordinator for central London. Alex has a great background in Aquatics and I am sure will be an asset to the London team. Colin ended his week by taking the Middlesex County Executive up the Olympic viewing platform to see the unparalleled vista of the Olympic park.
Next week: Colin has meetings with Westminster Council, Greater London Authority, Leisure Database Company and Aquaterra Leisure. Colin is particularly looking forward to the meeting with GLL, Skills Active and the London Development Agency regarding increasing the number of people coming into swimming teaching. This will be a fairly unusual meeting as it will be 'raided' by Common Purpose - a leadership organisation who will be bringing 9 people from a wide range of employers in the private, public and voluntary sectors to challenge our thinking and give a different insight into this issue. Colin is hoping to end the week with a visit to the London Youth Games diving at Crystal Palace.
This week Jo Calvino (Aquatic Development Programme Co-ordinator) has been working on the IT side of the bookings page and finishing off administrative tasks to previous events and CPD’s. Jo is now finalising and designing the Sport Science packages set to launch on July 1st on the London Swimming website.
This week has seen Jo Melchior (Project Manager) working on the monitoring and evaluation of the last two mobile pool installations and devising a m & e protocol and marketing and recruitment plans for the Mayoral Programme. Jo has also been working with Jo Calvino on some new initiatives relating to the events programme, and spending time with Ben Campion who will be handing over some of his projects to my work portfolio. I would personally like to wish Ben all the best in his new venture, and will miss working with him.
This week Jemma Konuralp (Swim21 Quality controller) came back from two days annual leave to a huge number of emails which she is steadily working her way through. Jemma also presented Bethnal Green Sharks with their swim21 certificates, details will be on the website shortly. Next week she will be starting her assessment of Enfield and Hillingdon SC and having a final pre-assessment meeting with Killerwhales of Havering.
This week Bastien Wallace (Project Manager - Barking & Dagenham) completed another CPD course - Mini-Snorkelling, together with the apprentices, some Barking & Dagenham Swimming Teachers & Lifeguards. It proved a fun afternoon. Bastien can’t help getting excited about developing these pathways for children to enjoy sport. The rest of the week Bastien has been learning new elements of the website and how to drive them, wrangling figures and budgets into a new order, considering the post-summer aquatics programme and getting out to leisure centres for face to face communication sessions.
