This week
Colin Brown (RD) has had a very productive meeting with Nova International who are running the ‘Great London Swim’ which takes place over a mile in the Royal Victoria Dock (next to the Excel Centre) on August 15
th Click
here for details.
This event will hopefully encourage people into open water swimming and potentially into joining clubs. Colin has also had a number of positive meetings with Barking & Dagenham Council and PCT as we benchmark almost a year of the ‘Get Wet Swim for Free’ project. At this stage it is really important to look back at the lessons learnt before embarking on this next critical year. The latter part of the week includes meeting with GLL and Camden Council and Club over developing Aquatics in the Borough. Colin will be attending the Championships at Crystal Palace on Sunday.
Next week: Colin has Aquatic Strategy meetings in Greenwich, Barking & Dagenham, Hackney and Westminster. Colin will also visiting Ealing to look at potential venues for a mobile pool in September 09.
Ben Campion (Investment Manager) Ben will be leaving London Swimming on the 22 June at the end of three years of excellent service. Ben has been appointed the National Development Manger for British Fencing and will start that post in July. I know that many of you have worked with Ben over his time with London Swimming and he will be sorely missed from Aquatics but we would like to thank him for all his hard work and wish him the very best in his new job.
This week
Jo Calvino (Aquatic Development Programme Co-ordinator) spent the first half of the week completing paperwork from another successful Super CPD weekend in Barking & Dagenham, and confirming meetings with Education and Synchro to look at ways of improving and developing both programmes in London. Bookings for the Adult Diving@Putney, Jane Asher Breaststroke Master Class, Disability Camera Class, Young Aquatic Organisers Award – Tutor Training & Jo Jackson 5 day Camp are all available now but spaces are limited so visit
www.londonswimming.org.uk to book now!!
This week has seen Jo Melchior (Project Manager) has been working on documentation regarding the Mayoral Pool programme. This has included meeting the GLA / Mayoral representatives responsible for delivering the project from a political standpoint. Jo has also had meetings with Job Centre Plus to work up an Induction process for potential Level 1 candidates that will empower and enthuse people looking to train / re-train for a new career in Aquatics.
This week Jemma Konuralp (Swim21 Quality controller) had a very thought provoking and exceptionally positive meeting with Ealing SC who have confirmed they aim to accredit at all four levels plus masters. This week she starts her assessment of Camden Swiss Cottage which she is very much looking forward to.
Last week Nik Jovanovic (West London Waterpolo coach) was working on May half term water polo Camp in Barnet. It was great to see 16 UKCC Level 1 water polo candidates and more than 20 young water polo players having 3 sessions a day for full 2 days. Feedback was great we will try to organise Water Polo Camps like this more often.
This Sunday Nik was at Barking and Dagenham delivering mini polo CPD to swimming teachers, while during the week Nik has back delivering regular mini polo and junior water polo sessions, and organising the U13 West London water polo tournament.
Tournament info: Saturday 20th June 4.30pm - 7.00 pm in Acton Baths, W3 8NW.
Invited teams: Fulham, Hillington, Enfield, Watford and Ealing Marlins
This weekend Nik will be in Bolton attending the water polo meeting for RTC coaches, and Sunday afternoon he will be in Watford at the U13 water polo tournament where the young Ealing Marlins WP team will participate for the first time.
Since touching down last Friday, Bastien Wallace (Project Manager - Barking & Dagenham) , has been on the go following up on Apprenticeship issues, digesting & preparing reports for the Steering group, chasing summer timetable content and so on. The highlight has been attending the FlipNFun, Mini-Polo and Aqua-Fun courses last weekend. Given how much fun the candidates had learning to teach these courses, Bastien can’t wait to see what Barking & Dagenham’s children think of them this summer!
