From Summer of Sport to Play Sport London:
Applications now open
Play Sport London 2009 funding aims to help clubs and community groups to provide free sport, physical activity and coaching opportunities, for people to participate in across London in the run up to the 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games and beyond.
Closing date for applications is Friday 22nd May 2009, 5pm.
In 2008/2009 a mixture of 43 individual sports clubs, organisations and community groups benefitted from funding across the four North London boroughs.
Funding is available for all sports and physical activities, ranging from sports coaching sessions to sports festivals and sports club open days. A key focus of the programme is to ensure participants have the opportunity and are encouraged to continue participation in sport following their attendance at a Play Sport London event.
Key Play Sport London criteria:
• Grants of up to £1,500 available for Community Groups and Sports Clubs (up to 75% of total project costs)
• To provide a minimum of 6+ hours of coaching (one off events will not be regarded as a priority)
• Activities must take place between 1st July 2009 and 30th September 2009.
• Activities must be free of charge to participants
• Activities must be inclusive of disabled people
• Activities must aim for 50% participation from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic Groups and females
• All staff must be CRB cleared and appropriately trained and qualified to deliver their activities
• Activities will need to have clear exit routes to ongoing participation opportunities
Play Sport London 2009 will be a competitive grant application process. Not all applications will be successful. Please make sure your event/activity satisfies ALL of the criteria which can be viewed and downloaded from the Play Sport London website http://www.playsportlondonapplications.co.uk/.

Central London Summer of Sport Application Workshops
This year PRO-ACTIVE Central London has commissioned London Community Sports Network to deliver two workshops, providing help and guidance on completing your Play Sport London applications. The workshops will also provide an opportunity for sports clubs and organisations to ask questions and find out more detail about Play Sport London and the application process, as well as information on services PRO-ACTIVE Central London and local partners can provide.
The dates of these free workshops are:
• Workshop 1 - Monday 11th May, 6:00pm - 8:00pm, The Pirate Castle, Oval Road, London NW1 7EA
• Workshop 2 - Thursday 14th May, 5:00pm-7:00pm, London South Bank University, The Keyworth Centre, room K604, Keyworth Street, London SE1 6NG
