Further Adult diving masterclasses are scheduled for another 6 week block starting on Wednesday 12th November.
Jo attended meetings for the Young Volunteers programme and how we can get more young volunteers and to look at creating further development days for the varied abilities within London Synchro. Jo & Ben caught up to discuss the website & advertising for further scheduled master classes as well as pricing structures and promotion of events.
Ben Campion (Investment Manager) This weeks focus has been Aqua Extreme, water polo, the aquatics events programme and has had an emphasis on financial planning and procedures.
Both the Water Polo and Aqua Extreme projects have been performing particularly well, over 2000 young people in West London have had the opportunity to access mini polo, water polo, synchronised swimming and diving over the last 6 months.
We are almost at the point of moving the Water Polo project forward and are currently finalising year two delivery, subject to Sport England confirmation of funding. We are currently developing an e-commerce website in order to service our needs for an online booking system.
Last but not least London Swimming has been working on an arms length workforce report, which should give us a really in depth understanding of what teacher and coaching workforce is needed in London.
Janna Callan (RDO) is delighted to announce that this week she received confirmation that London Swimming has been awarded the bronze award from Norwich Union for disability swimming. This means that the region has been given £1000 to develop disability swimming and the squad. Janna would like to thank Jenny Harper (a parent of a swimmer who is on the London Swimming Disability Squad) for all her support with the Norwich Union application.
Next week Janna will be attending a meeting with Colin regarding swimming in Westminster and meeting with the Director of Swimming in Southwark to discuss the Swim21 accreditation of Southwark Aquatics.
This week Jo Melchior (EDS – Lewisham) has been re-working some of the adverts from the October campaign to refresh items to appeal to other markets. Jo also attended a seminar on behalf of Everyday Swim, to give feedback to the British Heart Foundation on their new guidelines relating to Older People’s Activity due to be published early 2009.
This week Annabel Kehoe (EDS-Islington) received 500 applications for the Islington free adult swimming lessons offer. This huge response has come from the advertisement in the Motivation magazine that was door-dropped to all Islington households. The lessons kicked off last week with great attendance from the new swimmers. Taking place at all four Islington pools, the lessons will run for 8 weeks. Also running this week, an ASA level 1 teaching course has held at Ironmonger Row Baths. The fully booked course saw many swimmers taking up the challenge to be able to teach their sport.
Next week, Annabel will be continuing to administer the free swimming lessons and will be working on a developing a advertising campaign for the new year.
This week Jemma Konuralp (Swim21 Quality coordinator) attended the Regional Panel and continued to formulate plans to establish a formal Swim21 network in London. She also contacted a number of clubs who have registered for Swim21 but did not continue with the process to advise them of the change in criteria and procedure in London. Next week she will be attending a National Working Group in Loughborough in respect of the marketing and communitaction of Swim21
Bastien Wallace – Project Manager (Barking & Dagenham) - As this is half-term Get Wet Swim for Free is back in session for the holidays with free fun splash sessions throughout the borough as well as Junior Aquafit tasters and a pool party at Abbey Sports Centre. Bastien has also organized apples so that all children leaving a Get Wet session are offered one, ensuring no-one goes home hungry and the healthy eating message gets associated with swimming & exercise. Bastien also had a succession of meetings with Press, Marketing and Children’s Services staff within the borough, and a successful steering group meeting.
