London Volunteer wins National Award
The outstanding contribution volunteers make to swimming have been celebrated at the National Aquaforce Volunteer Awards Lunch, on Sunday 19th October.
There were 133 nominations nationally and 28 Regional Aquaforce Award winners. The judging panel, made up of members of the asa Volunteer Forum and asa Youth Forum, said they found it incredibly hard to select just five national winners.
The Outstanding Contribution by an 18 to 25 Year Old Award went to Anastacia Long. Anastacia is from Merton School of Diving and Trampolining., in London. As well as being an excellent mentor for the teenagers in the club, she is an exceptional person to be able to cope with the demands and responsibility of running a club at such a young age, in addition to working full time. Anastacia (Stacie) is also the Regional Diving Manager for the London Region.
The Awards were an opportunity for the asa, County Associations, clubs and individuals to say thank you to the exceptional people that help to deliver our sport so successfully.

This week Jo Calvino (Aquatic Programme Development Co-ordinator) has confirmed the next block of Adult Diving sessions at Putney, details will be on the website very soon. Her main priority this week was to complete final preparations for this weeks Synchro Camp being delivered by Elke Sullivan, this is the first of it's kind to run in London, which is very exciting for Synchronised Swimming. Jo has started to make contact with Sports Science specialists to arrange future workshops in the London, as well as contacting pools to host camera camps in the future. Most of Jo's time at present is currently spent on building relationships with venues and specialists to ensure we work with the best to provide our London Clubs with opportunities at all levels to develop at a reasonable cost.

This week Jemma Konuralp (Swim21 Quality coordinator) has been making preparations for the Regional Swim21 Panel meeting next week, which she will be attending. Next week Jemma is meeting with Nikola Jovanovic, London Swimming's resident waterpolo guru to ensure that any waterpolo sections of clubs that he helps set up is done in compliance with Swim21.

This week Bastien Wallace - Project Manager (Barking & Dagenham) has been consumed with preparations for next week’s half-term Get Wet Swim for Free holiday programme. Goresbrook, Dagenham & Abbey pools are all ready to go, and while this is going on Samantha Gray will be training in the Meadway Sports Centre to become an Adult & Child Teacher so we can pilot programming for infants & pre-school age children prior to Christmas.
Bastien also attended Barking & Dagenham’s planning event to harness the Olympic spirit to inspire sporting & cultural effort, as one of the Olympic gateway boroughs.  It was great to meet and hear from people working in these areas within Barking & Dagenham, and in other areas of East London.  I also learnt a lot form hearing from some of the Borough’s Youth Leaders about the things they want & need.

This week Jo Melchior ( EDS – Lewisham) has been following up on the Lewisham Swims campaign with the leisure centres and is pleased to report that Lewisham does indeed seem to want to swim. Jo has also been assisting Jo Calvino with the planning and delivery of a Synchro Day being held this weekend in the borough, where local Teachers and swimmers from Lewisham who are interested in Synchro are being allowed to access the expert training and guidance of international coach Elke Sullivan. Next week sees Jo working on the monitoring and evaluation reports that the leisure providers will complete at the end of October to assess the penetration the marketing has had on the offers available.

This week Janna Callan (RDO) has completed her hand over with Bastien Wallace the Project Manager for the Get Wet! Swim for free project in Barking and Dagenham. Next week Janna will be planning her work as a Development Officer and attending the Swim21 London Panel.
