Jo Calvino (Aquatic Programme Development Co-ordinator) has been on annual leave.
Janna Callan (RDO) is on annual leave for 2 weeks.
This week has seen Jo Melchior (EDS – Lewisham) starting the week with 23 swimmers from Saxon Crown, who through Everyday Swim funding accessed a Camera Camp which provided each of the participants with a DVD of their swimming, starting and turning techniques. The swimmers will be using this information to work on their strokes especially during the upcoming warm weather training camp in October. Monday saw a fantastic day with London Swimming's Jemma Konuralp and her husband Dervis, in their roles as ambassadors for Paralympic Swimming. The pair where charming, engaging and lots of fun, and the children from five Lewisham Schools really benefited from spending time with them. So a big thank you from the children and staff of the schools and from Lewisham Council and Everyday Swim. Slightly less inspiring but equally important has been the finalising of the Lewisham Swims campaign. Advertising material is now completed for all the October offers and the marketing campaign kicks off with the Big Swim Bus event on Sunday 28th. We will be recording the event so no doubt a clip will be available on the London swimming website imminently.
Also a big CONGRATULATIONS to Mark Lewis (Saxon Crown SC) who this weekend broke the 200 Butterfly Masters World Record (25-29) in 1.59.74 beating the previous world record of 1.59.92, this also smashed the European Masters Record of 2.01.74 and the British Masters Record that has stood since 2002 of 2.04.5. Mark had superb meet as he also broke the British Masters 100 Fly record from 2002 of 55.50 with a 55.48.
BRING ON THE COMMONWEALTHS!!!
This week Annabel Kehoe (EDS - Islington) spent the week doing the final edit for her swimming magazine that will be distributed to all 190,000 households within Islington in October. To coincide with the magazine, Annabel is also running an outdoor advertising campaign around Ironmonger Row Baths, informing passer-bys of the locality of the pool. Deadlines around this were also due during the week. Annabel also attended LIW in Birmingham and attended several interesting seminars.
Next week, Annabel will be helping the London Swimming crew move house, catching up on some M&E work and putting together some more artwork for the outdoor advertising campaign.
This week Jemma Konuralp (Swim21 Quality coordinator) has met with several clubs regarding their Swim21 re-accreditation next year. Next week she will be meeting with more clubs and starting to create formal Swim21 networks within London.
