London Swimming Annual Conference
You are invited to this years Annual Conference, taking place on Sunday 14th
September at St Pauls School, London SW13 9JT, www.londonswimming.org
 
We have an exciting programme lined up which includes a variety of master classes for Swimming, Synchro and Diving being lead by top National Coaches and Olympians, such as Nick Juba and Adam Brown, Tony Ally and Blake Aldridge. There will be workshops for coaches, parents, officials & the second Annual Youth Council, for the athletes to have their say. There will also be an update on the 2012 Aquatic Centre as well as the presentation of the London Swimming & Aquaforce Awards. Ending the day will be Olympian Blake Aldridge who will tell us about his Beijing experience.

Colin Brown (RD): This week Colin met with Havering Council and visited some of their sites. Colin also presented to the Greater London Volunteering forum and got some good ideas on how we can advertise aquatic volunteer opportunities across London. Colin also attended an Aquatic Centre Stakeholder meeting and viewed the latest pictures from the site, which will be presented to the membership at the Annual Conference on Sunday. Colin spent time looking at case studying London Fields Lido as an open air 50-metre facility with very good all year round usage. Colin also conducted interviews for the full time project manager for the Barking & Dagenham - Get Wet Swim for Free project. Colin will be attending the Annual Conference on Sunday.
Next week: Colin will be meeting with interested parties about developing a Borough pathway in Waltham Forest. Colin will also be meeting with his peers in Loughborough at our quarterly Directors meeting. At the end of the week Colin will be meeting with local authorities from the South Sub-region to advise them on our strategic plans and update them on the governments free swimming offer.

This week Jo Calvino (Aquatic Programme Development Co-ordinator) has been making final preparations for the Annual Conference, confirming bookings, speakers and dealing with enquiries. The finer details for the Putney Learn to Dive programme have been confirmed and the programme looks set to start on the 15th September. Jo should also has a series of adult master classes in Diving finalised to start on Wednesday 25th September, which will be a 1 hour session per week over 6 weeks, so keep your eye's on the Master class page (http://www.londonswimming.org/page/:Master_Classes). Finally Jo has been trying to confirm the dates for some athlete development days for next month. Jo will be on annual leave starting on the 15th September and will return to work on 29th September.
 
This week Ben Campion (Investment Manager) met with SRS to discuss the kit shop at the London Swimming championships. The rest of the week has been taken up with business planning with a focus on the whole sport plan for 2009-2012. This is a significant funding bid and will help to really move swimming in London forward. Ben and Colin met with GLL to look at the London Fields Lido and begin to build a case study for this fantastic facility. Ben will be on annual leave next week returning on the 22 September.
 
This week Janna Callan (RDO) has had a productive week in Barking and Dagenham, Janna assisted Colin Brown with the interviews for the full time project manager and looks forward to the successful appointment. Next week, Janna will be putting the final touches to the pool programme for Barking and Dagenham, attending the steering group meeting and meeting with the Barking and Dagenham swimming clubs.
 
This week Annabel Kehoe (EDS - Islington) went to task producing another magazine, which will aim to encourage adults to take up swimming. The magazine will be door-dropped to approximately 180,000 households within Islington. Annabel also spent several days in Loughborough with her Everyday Swim colleagues to discuss how to best communicate the many lessons learnt from all the Everyday Swim projects.
Next week, Annabel will be concentrating on the final draft of the magazine before it goes to print and attending the London Swimming team meeting at the end of the week.
 
This week Jo Melchior (EDS – Lewisham) has been working on the text and visuals for the booklets that are supporting the Lewisham Learns campaign. These are aimed at U5's and general swimmers. Jo has had lots of creative support from Rita Martelo in the design and concept of the U5 booklet. This week saw two days in Loughborough catching up with other co-ordinators and sharing best practice, and the week has finished of with some planning of CPD's and specialist courses in older people's and disability users needs
 
Jemma Konuralp (Swim21 Quality coordinator) is on annual leave this week.
