Colin Brown (RD) This week has been themed around the development of a sporting legacy plan for London across all sports. It has been good to feed in ideas from our strategy into the embryonic thinking in this area. Colin also spent time shadowing Stephen Hammond MP as part of the parliamentary sports fellowship scheme. Colin attended prime ministers questions, met with local constituents concerned with the climate change bill and sat in on a briefing on transport issues by the local government association. It was very insightful day looking at the role of a London MP and the range of issues that they face. Colin also met with clubs in Islington and Greenwich about developing talent pathways.
Next week Colin Brown will be meeting with David Sparkes (CEO) regarding facility planning. Attending a networking event in the East Sub-Region and preparing for our key partners event in early May.
Last week Mark Griggs (EO) made headway at the National Education Officer meeting, where a number of outstanding issues where finalised. He also attended an aqua extreme meeting where funding for a number of west London swimming teachers to attend CPD’s and Courses was finalised (keep an eye on www.londonswimming.org for more information shortly). He also meet with GLL in Sutton to plan courses in the pools, again (keep an eye on www.londonswimming.org for more information shortly)

This week Janna Callan (RDO) presented the Greenwich pathway to the Kent County Committee last week. Janna also completed the Swim21 assessments for Barnet Copthall's synchro and diving section as well as Havering Cormorants Diving Club.
Next week Janna will be at the Regional Swim21 panel, attending the Hackney Strategy meeting and doing a Swim21 assessment for Erith and District Swimming Club at Teaching level for synchro and swimming.
Next week Cathy Carr (RDO) will be attending the Swim 21 Regional Panel and will be attending the North London Leadership Programme. Towards the end of the week Cathy will be meeting with Harrow Leisure Centre and Council and Phoenix leisure centre in Hammersmith and Fulham to discuss developing the Aqua Extreme project. The Aqua Extreme project (visit http://www.londonswimming.org/page/:Projects) is developing well now in the West and will see further developments with the new part time Waterpolo Coach; Nik Jovanovic working in this sub-region. On Friday, Cathy will be meeting with the new Head of Leisure for Enfield Council and meeting with the consultant leading on the Hillingdon 50m pool development.
Ben Campion (Investment Manager) There will be a presentation at Southbury road regarding the West London Waterpolo initiative. See www.londonswimming.org for further details. This week’s work has been focused on a few key areas. Water Polo, Extending Activities Programmes and last but not least long term business planning for the region. On Friday Ben will be taking part in a session focused on the monitoring and evaluation of Sport England funded programs.
This week Jo Calvino (RDDO) has been concentrating on LDN S21 with hopefully a minimum of 2 Diving Clubs going through this panel. The start of the Diving World Series Legacy programme is underway in Sheffield and on Thursday Jo will be attending the National meeting re: talent review.
This week has been a busy week for Annabel Kehoe (EDS – Islington). After participating in the Swimathon at Cally Pool on Sunday, the week began with putting the final touches to the launch of the Liquid Swim Programme. Annabel attended a Swim Fit meeting, lead by Nuala Muir Cochrane, on Thursday where the redesign of the product went forward. Also moving forward was the borough pathway for Islington with the first meeting between all partners on Thursday evening. The week was concluded with Annabel leading the London Swimming themed day, providing an update on her Everyday Swim projects and also enlightening the team on the workings of Australian Swimming within their national sporting structure.
Next week, Annabel will be working on a swimming promotional magazine that is to go to Islington’s schools prior to the summer holidays as well as providing in-house training for all the new Fitness Swimming Instructors who will be delivering the Liquid Swim Programme.
This week has been focused around workforce development with two courses beginning in Lewisham this week. Jo Melchior (EDS – Lewisham) is thrilled that Michael Falese one of the Dad's who learnt to swim on our Family Swim Scheme for the Rainbow Group (Refugee and Asylum Seekers Charity) has started his journey to being a Teacher by taking on the challenge of a Level 1 Teachers qualification. This hopefully is the first step to him becoming a Teacher to his own community, leaving this group self-sustaining after Everyday Swim finishes. A really nice touch is that Paul Wright the Teacher who originally taught Michael to swim is "buddying up" with him, offering mentoring and giving him a shadowing role during LTS sessions, so that he gets plenty of Teaching practice. The other course is equally exciting as we are piloting the new Rookie Lifeguard CPD on behalf of the ASA and RLSS. This will train 12 teachers across Lewisham to deliver structured Rookie classes, which we are aiming to provide to teens across the Borough in the Summer as well as an activity for the Summer University and as one of the alternative activities for the KICKS Project. Next week Jo will be doing work around Free Swimming plus going on training to extend her knowledge of minority communities, specifically in this case the emerging populations from Eastern Europe.
