Colin Brown (RD) - Colin's week has been focused on key meetings around Beacon Programme, Water Polo, Universities, Mobile Pools and finishing the week with a presentation to the Enfield Swimming Association.
Next week: Colin will be chairing the Regional Directors meeting in Loughborough and introducing the ASA staff to 'speed dating'.
Janna Callan (RDO) has had an extremely positive start to the New Year. Janna has been working hard to ensure a clear sustainable swimming pathway is created in Greenwich, and has been part of a group that has appointed Doug Campbell in an interim position - An Olympic Coach for an Olympic Borough
Last weekend, Janna met with Halliwick Penguins in Enfield, at her visit she learnt a lot about the Halliwick method and was impressed with some of the work being carried out by the organisation. A representative from Halliwick will now be joining the London Swimming Disability Strategic Group, which is due to meet at the end of January. London will be the only region to have a representative from Halliwick on their strategic group.
Next week Janna will be completing her Host Borough Report, meeting with Dagenham Swimming Club regarding their Swim21 submission and attending an RDO meeting in Loughborough to share good practise with RDOs from other regions.
Next week Cathy Carr (RDO) will be meeting with Enfield Council with Colin to discuss swimming development and catching up on the Borough pathways work and arranging further meetings with Borough's. Mid week Cathy will be meeting with Harrow and Ealing Sports Development to discuss the February half term Aqua Teen events. Due to successful ‘Get Up and Go’ Funding these Borough's will be running a weeks Aquacise based activity targeting teenage girls. Cathy will be attending the RDO meeting in Loughborough and attending a meeting in Hillingdon. Cathy is also looking to recruit an athlete for our Swim 21 Panel
This week Ben Campion (RDO) has been focusing on Sport England projects particularly the London Regions Water Polo Project. London Swimming has an in-principle confirmation for £170,000 of Sport England funding to deliver Water Polo programs across London. The project focus will be capacity building, coach education and school club links and for the initial year will focus on the West of London. The Sport England funding is the biggest single allocation of funding to Water Polo outside of the Elite program, and shows a real commitment to grass roots development as we move towards the Olympics.
The remainder of the week has been spent on various funding opportunities that are currently open to us.
Next week Ben will be spending time looking at multi-activity competition and spending sometime in Loughborough. On Monday evening Ben has a meeting with the finance and admin committee.
This week Yvette Heywood, the National Volunteer and School Competition Manager, has been in Manchester discussing the volunteer programme for the World Championships that will take place in Manchester in April. Yvette learnt about the recruitment and support programme that the event has put in place to support volunteers who want to take part in the event. Last week Jo Melchior (EDS – Lewisham) has spent time catching up with colleagues in Lewisham and doing some work on School Swimming in particular. This week has been busy planning for the swim Gospel launch at Wavelengths at the end of the month, and finalising her project plan. Next week sees Jo working on extending the highly successful Men's Health scheme that has recently run in Lewisham, to the leisure centres.
For Annabel Kehoe (EDS - Islington) last week saw the launch of the Liquid Swim Programme at Cally Pool. The Programme involves new members receiving 3 one-to-one swimming sessions to help them kick-start their new year in the pool. For more information, log onto the Everyday Swim website.
Next week, Annabel will be meeting with Kate Sargant (ASA Swimming Activity Manager) and continue working on various projects for 2008.
This week Jo Calvino (RDO - Diving) has been checking and finalizing the graphics for the ASA Diving Awards, as well as completing budget forecasting for the 2008-9 diving budgets. On Wednesday, Jo had a meeting to discuss the delivery of the diving English Talent Programme and the way that it should move forward, a final decision is yet to be made.
On Thursday Jo met with Skills4sport a film company which is producing an educational resource for UK Athletics aimed at both Primary and Secondary schools. It will feature many lesson plans and teaching and coaching ideas and the objective will be to promote Athletics in schools. Jo is looking into how this can be produced for promoting diving in schools.
Next week Jo has meetings with the South West Diving Manager on Tuesday, she will be also be attending the ASA National Officers meeting on Thursday, and delivering a Flip n Fun cpd at Runnymeade pool on Saturday. Jo also has some Swim21 files to review.
This week Ellie Purvis (tutor) has been tutoring a UKCC Level 1 (Teaching Aquatics) in Dagenham.
This Mark Griggs (EO) has been catching up with Tutors, IOS Centres and his admin that has backed up from his time off over the Christmas period
