Crystal Palace Diving Update

British Swimming and London Swimming to debate future of Crystal Palace

The future of diving at the National Sports Centre, Crystal Palace will be debated when British Swimming and the ASA meets with facility operator Greenwich Leisure Limited (GLL).Teacher with kids doing Flip n Fun

London’s only Olympic diving facility (10 metre) is currently undergoing a refurbishment and British Swimming will discuss with GLL how the current diving programme can be maintained and improved when the pool reopens next summer.

The pool was due to close on 1st November, however, the discovery of asbestos within the facility forced its closure in September.

British Swimming Chief Executive David Sparkes and London Director Colin Brown will meet with GLL on 4th December to discuss how the facility can meet the needs of the hundreds of divers that use Crystal Palace.

“Our main focus has to be on the young athletes with Olympic potential, what they need in order to maximise their chances of succeeding and how, by working together, we can ensure that we meet these needs,” said Sparkes.

“British Swimming will be talking to athletes, parents, GLL and Sport England about the existing diving programme in place at Crystal Palace and how it can continue to deliver and improve the service provided.”

Sparkes said “ Our focus is on the athletes and their needs and that is our sole interest”

“Crystal Palace is very important to diving and British Swimming want to ensure that this develops to be a vibrant option for athletes.”
